The Dresden OpenSource UserGroup is meant as a platform to meet OpenSource enthusiasts, experts, professionals and fans. We want to encourage you to get in touch with OpenSource projects and communities.
We love Open Source, and we want to bring the community together. This user group should provide a forum to discuss Open Source and showcase what others are doing with it. But what does this mean?
What are we doing?
We are organizing a monthly (online) meetup, where we are talking about Open Source. We are looking into automation, containers, development or home labs. Connecting Open Source fans like the robotics developer and the PHP teacher or the Linux beginner with somebody who uses it professional is the general idea.
We are also recording the sessions, so you can have a look, if you don't find time to attend to a meetup. This way, we also want to ensure that everybody can dig into topics we addressed in the past. You can also use these videos as an inspiration for your talk.
If the speaker are providing presentations, we will also put them in the repository.
If you just want to have a look at the calendar, without any registration, you can also subscribe to our Nextcloud calendar.
The meetup format was perfect for us. We are doing (online) talks with various speakers, talking about various topics. A talk can be something from 10 minutes, up to an hour and there is no limit in the way, the speaker can enhance the talk. For the user group, we are currently following this approach:
- a talk should address one topic
- a talk should not be longer than one hour
- a talk should not be shorter than ten minutes
- a talk should be German or English language (materials should be always in English)
- a talk may be cross-advertised in other meetup groups to connect these, too
There are NO limitations in format, expertise or otherwise. Some talks are about coding, others about experience or a cool tool is introduced.
Become a Speaker
We are constantly searching for new ideas, topics and speakers. Please feel free to reach out to us and suggest a new topic or offer your help as a speaker.
There are no limitations. Feel free to talk about your experience with Ubuntu Linux, photo editing in GIMP, using BSD in production or container orchestration in production. You can also present your own Open Source software or get in touch with other developers.
Company webinars / other groups
If your company or user group offers free webinars, sessions and talks about Open Source, please also get in touch with us. We want to connect Open Source users, this also includes companies and all kind of groups, which are living the Open Source way.
The planning and organization of meetups, conference participation, social media and everything else is done by our wonderful team.
